On July 28th 1945 at 0940 local time, A United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) North American B-25D Mitchell medium bomber collided with the Empire State Building in New York City. The bomber struck the north side of the building between the 78th and 80th floors- 913 feet above 34th Street. The impact created an 18 foot by 20 foot hole in the north side of the building.
